Sinead O'Connor shopped Shane 'to save his life' [Feb 4 2000 5:26PM] Sinead O'Connor has responded to Q magazine's news story that she reported Shane MacGowan to the police for alleged possession of Class A drugs by saying that she did it try and save his life. In an e-mail to Q magazine she painted a startling picture of the former Pogues frontman's decline into an alohol and drug-fuelled hell and said: "It wasn't about 'grassing' Shane MacGowan - I went to the police out of concern for his life." O'Connor - who last year was ordained as a Latin Tridentine Catholic priest - is a longtime friend of MacGowan and his girlfriend Victoria Clarke. She said that the sequence of events began when MacGowan asked to borrow money even though she understood he had just been paid £23,000 in royalties and advances. "I deduced that what he really was asking for was not cash, but help. Still like an idiot I gave him £600. Then I went to see him that morning (November 11) and found he'd spent it on heroin." O'Connor said that she told him that if that's what he did with the money then she would go to the police - "And I'll shop him a million times if I have to!"
