St. Petersburg Times May 10, 1990, Thursday, City Edition Singer joins protest of Clay appearance Compiled from Wire Reports Singer Sinead O'Connor announced Wednesday she has refused to perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend, becoming the second performer to boycott the TV show because of foul-mouthed guest host Andrew Dice Clay. "It would be nonsensical of Saturday Night Live to expect a woman to perform songs about a woman's experiences after a monologue by Andrew Dice Clay," the singer's publicist, Elaine Schock, said. O'Connor's song Nothing Compares 2 U tops the pop singles chart. Saturday Night Live cast member Nora Dunn announced Monday that she was boycotting the program, saying "In my heart, I know I can't work with him." Clay, in an interview taped for Wednesday's broadcast of Entertainment Tonight, referred to Dunn as "Nora Dunce," saying: "I think Nora Dunce is a very silly girl . I think she's just doing this because I am the hottest comic in the world today. I didn't invent dirty words, I just know how to make 'em rhyme."
